David Howarth reports:
Six MACs turned out for this Club Championship race. We couldn’t have wished for better weather.
Sunny but cool and no wind : perfect running conditions and an extra hour in bed before the 10 am start. The first few kms are more mentally challenging than physical. The (closed) B6034 is very straight and undulating. When we turned off it to head into Clumber Park I was glad we were doing the route this way around. Running through Clumber Park in the sunshine and autumnal colours was as good as it gets for a road (there is a trail section of about 2km) half marathon. My aim was to run even paced at 5.15 mins/km, with a minimum goal of running faster than I did at Wilmslow in March (1.56.47). The undulating nature of the course made even paced running difficult but I was aware that with some kms quicker than 5.15 and some slower I was there or thereabouts. But from kms 15-20 my splits fell to a range between 5.19-5.37 as I tired. After passing through the grounds of Worksop college there was a welcome downhill to the finish and I came home in 1.53.25, an average of 5.20/km.
Overall a good day out at a very well organised event. From 1077 finishers MAC results as follows:
