On Sunday 29 October 16 MACs headed to Worksop for the annual Halloween Half, organised by Worksop Harriers and AC. Unlike previous years, there were no medals for finishing the race, but everyone got a banana (and the rather splendid long sleeve T-shirt, perfect for the approaching wintry weather).
The course is apparently known as ‘the scenic one’ and it takes in Clumber park, which is very pretty. There is also a less scenic slog along the road from Worksop to the park, but what might have been lacking in scenery was made up for in undulations.
The race is also renowned for the mid-way stretch of comedy signs – you need to be there to appreciate them, but they take your mind off the race for a while and before you know it (allegedly) you are counting down the last few miles to the mercifully downhill final stretch to the finish.
Full results are available on the sportmaniacs.com website but particular congratulations to Hayley Gill, overall female winner in a stonking 1:21:58. Also a great run by captain Greg Hopkinson finishing 7th overall in 1:14:39. And yet another great performance from Jim Thorneycroft winning the V65 category in 1:34:49.
