World Cup 60th Anniversary Race
The World Cup 60th Anniversary event in Milton Keynes was a celebration of running and football history. Staged at Caldecotte Lake to mark 60 years since England’s 1966 World Cup win, the race brought together a small field for a themed event with a distinctive sense of occasion. Before the start, runners enjoyed the football hits from over the years from Back Home to Vindaloo, a veritable feast for the ears!
The race was organised by Enigma Running who regularly use the scenic, traffic-free laps around the lake. The loop is a firm and largely flat route which requires Marathon runners to complete 7 full laps, followed by a short out and back section at the end.
Once you had crossed the line, just like the ball did in 1966, every finisher received a bespoke anniversary medal, designed to honour England’s World Cup triumph and the famous medals presented to Bobby Moore and the team. It was a fitting reward for a race built around nostalgia. In addition, every finisher got the opportunity to celebrate by lifting the World Cup.
