Yorkshire Three Peaks

John Thorpe reports:

Yesterday saw several MACs take The Yorkshire 3 Peaks race known as The Marathon with mountains.

The course takes on just over 24 miles and 5200 ft elevation, The first climb takes you up Pen Y Ghent at 694m high before an 8 mile monotonous drag to Ribblehead Viaduct before the next and steepest climb starts heading up Whernside 736m high with a steep descent to match it beats the legs up!

Finally you Summit Ingleborough at 724m high with 4.5 miles left to go. This grinds you down if your having a bad day 😂 with tight cut offs it makes for a fast race with over 120 plus runners not making the cut.

For MAC Derek Chetwin 4:37:32, Matt Govan 4:54:32, John Thorpe 5:09:34 and Geoff Cooper after having a wobble up Whernside and losing his breakfast 5:38:32, Unfortunately Whernside took two casualties for MAC with Nick Gant and Luke Beresford having to retire at Hill Inn.
The course is an absolute beast to run and people were heard saying “They’d never bother again”
Finlay Wild described it as “Brutal”
John Thorpe was quoted as he’d never run such an “Horrendous route”
