Matlock Athletic Club was delighted to take part in the Food Bank Run initiative, on Thursday 15 February 2024. Details about the initiative are available at https://runr.co.uk/pages/foodbankrun
Club members were invited to bring donations to our club run, or make a cash donation which we used to buy more food items. The food was donated to the Jigsaw Food Bank in Matlock: https://churchinthepeak.org/jigsaw/foodbank
Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to donate a ‘boot full’ (not sure if that is an official measure of volume) of essential items, which will help to support those in our local community.
The food run took place as part of our 10k handicap run – a series for club members that takes place during the winter months, loved and loathed in equal measure by members. The race uses an age-graded handicap system, so runners’ finishing times are adjusted based on their age. Pictured are Tony and Ellie, winners of the series based on their age-graded times. The evening was a little damp, but enjoyed by all – in particular the timekeepers who get to spend most of the evening in the warm dry leisure centre until the runners return.
