Kinder Downfall Race

The ever popular Kinder Downfall Fell Race took place yesterday (Sun 21st April) with 10 MAC Members making there way up to Hayfield, a small village in the High Peak nestled just below and to the west of the Kinder Scout Plateau.

Lovely Spring weather greeted nearly 300 enthusiastic fell runners for the 9.6 mile circular route from Hayfield with over 600 metres of ascent to negotiate.

A quick dash up and over the hill towards Kinder reservoir before the long slog up William Clough and onto the Idyllic High Peak Kinder Plateau. From here the fun begins as boulders and gritstone rocks tangle your feet in every direction, leaving no choice but to put on your best fell running footwork and test out your strictly come dancing skills. Dancing to the left and dancing to the right the dazzling quick footed fell runners traverse around the edge of the Kinder Downfall and make way towards the highest point of the race ‘Kinderlow’ at 633 metres before the fast and furious descent back to Hayfield village for a Euphoric finish.

Flying the flag for the MAC Blue in no particular order, the ever present Richard Bradbury continues to dominate the V50 category by once again taking first V50 and a top 10 finish overall.

Great to see Dean Taylor making an appearance for MAC and thoroughly enjoying the day out in the hills.

Returning for the Ladies the ever Chipper Smiling Sally Hale put in a fine performance for the Matlock Ladies.

Long serving member Karl Webster clocked up another Downfall finish, still has a retro vintage Downfall t-shirt from the 1990s tucked away for memorabilia.

Geoff Cooper the fell running legend of Nottinghamshire was in stiff competition with his son in law chasing hard across the plateau.

New member Cherry Moger added strength to the ladies team and had a great run to take 2nd FemaleV40.

Mick fowler no stranger to the hills and mountains continued to notch up more peak district fell runs for MAC with another fantastic performance.

Ayako Yokoyama-Nichols was back in action after a good result at Lads Leap two weeks ago, followed up another impressive run to finish well inside 2 hours.

Finally myself and the colossal Jim Blyth had a good friendly battle, both picking up podium positions on a fantastic day up on Kinder.

Tea, cake and refreshments were enjoyed back at race hq before the scenic drive back over the hills towards the white peak.

Well done MAC!
