Matthew Walker 10k

The Matthew Walker 10k Pud Run 2023

Three MACs (that I can see in the results), Birtie West, Roy Austin and Chris Rouse attended this early festive race at Shipley Country park.

Being a popular local race, this was my first time attending, although sometimes we can feel a little bit Shiplied out at times with the parkrun, two BDLs and the Rasselbocks. That being said, this course had its own unique format taking in the best of all these other events, it certainly found all the beastliest of hills all in one event.

Conditions were wet underfoot and a little mild for this time of year. The course starts off in the car park near the visitors centre and sends you off into the industrial estate for a quick 2km (I’m guessing this is designed to spread the runners out before going into the park, avoiding bottlenecks). you are then sent through the park via access roads where you face a undulating but interesting race throughout the park including all the fun hills but plenty of good downs to make the time back.

To be honest, the real reason we were actually here was for that luxury Christmas Pudding and it was most definitively well earned 😁

First MAC back was Birtie finishing in 48th with a chip time of 45:46, then Roy 103rd (chip time 49:18) and Chris 346th (chip time 58:01).

1st male was Bruce Raeside of NOTTS AC in 33:38 and 1st lady Charlotte Ward of CITY OF HULL AC in 37:16. Total participants 771. Full results: https://results.sporthive.com/events/7130517847434551296/races/1
