Winter Half Tour of Bradwell – Yesterday saw six MAC members take on the Winter Half Tour of Bradwell.
A slight quirk to this event is that runners can start the race from any time between 9:00 – 10:00. I was one of the early risers, and cracked on with a 9AM start.
Everyone else obviously thought an extra hour in bed was more appealing, and I managed to complete the race without actually seeing anyone else from Matlock.
A lovely 17.5 mile loop, with a good mixture of road, trail and fell. Four decent climbs are spread throughout the route, including Shatton Moor, Losehill and Cave Dale. I managed to make a pretty poor shoe choice, with the descent down into Castleton being particularly tentative, even by my standards.
I managed to cross the line first, but that doesn’t mean a lot in this ‘timed’ race. I was still pleased to finish with a solid 4th place, with Joe Oldfield taking the win in a ridiculous time which made it look like the rest of us must have stopped for tea and cake in Castleton.
