MAC History 2023

January 2023

David Denton’s Hangover 5 mile race from Bull’s Head, Belper kicked off the year with MACs taking part, including a full contingent of Gill’s – Mum Hayley, Dad Steve, daughter Jess and son, Toby.

The Derbyshire XC Champs were changed at the last minute from Markeaton Park to Bulwell Hall Pk, Nottingham due to waterlogging.  Good turnout of MACs with Dan Haworth 2nd, Hayley Gill (1st LV45), Shelley Fairey (1st LV35) and Amy Jones (2nd LV35) claiming Team Gold, Lottie Riddle, Megan Elliot and Sally Hale Team Silver and Jan Forrester 2nd LV65, Logan Fairey Bronze in U13 Boys, Colin Davenport Bronze in M35, Les Thurston Bronze in M65.

The 4th race in the Winter 10k Age Graded Handicap took place with Sally Hall winning the Female category and Mike Blair the Men’s.  2 races left to go.  It was Race 4 in Derby Runner BDL at Bramcote Hills, leaving the Men 1st and Ladies 4th with 1 race to go.

Bolsover 10k took place postponed because of ice from December 2022. 5 MACs took part.

The Northern XC Champs took place at Blackburn.  Tigger Tor FR with 12 MACS on the course and some podium finishes.

February 2023

The monthly track sessions at Tupton Hall Track, Chesterfield have re-started with the first one being 6th February.

The first race in the English FR champs took place at Long Mynd Shropshire (11.5 miles/4,500’)  – a medium race with Billy Cartwright taking a new course record with 13 MACs.  Mick Moorhouse 1st MV70.

The MAC Age Graded 10k Handicap still proving popular and with just one race to go in March.

The last BDL now called DRL (Derby Runner League) was held at Holmebrook Valley Country Pk Chesterfield without the usual mud and wet conditions.   MAC Men placed 1st in the League, Ladies 4th but giving us 1st in the Combined Event with some good individual results also.  Mick Moorhouse and Jan Forrester 1st V70s, Kate Ruffell 1st LV55 and Colin Davenport 1st MV40.

Dennis Holmes now does a weekly round-up of Parkrun results with members competing all over the place.

National XC Champs were held at Bolesworth Castle and Lottie Riddle, Greg Hopkinson, Jose Rivas Gutierrez, Luke Beresford, Dan Haworth and Matt Jackson flew the flag for MAC.

March 2023

Grindleford Gallop was postponed to October due to the weather, as was the monthly age graded 10k, but did take place on 16th March.  The lady winner this year was Lottie Riddle and male, Mike  Blair.

North Lincs Half Marathon saw Hayley Gill winning the V45 category in 1.22.48 and Dan Haworth was 1st overall in 1.06.56.

Organising Peak Rail 7 began in earnest and got a mention in Runners World magazine.

Logan Fairey and Will Croft represented their school in the English Schools XC final at Wollaton Pk, Nottingham and did well in a strong field.

Nick Gant took on the Dark Skies Run at Kielder Water, Northumbria.  A 26.5 mile event which takes place through the night.  He finished 10th in 3.53.44.  Whilst Colin Davenport was the sole MAC at the Coniston 14.  12 MACs took on the mighty Edale Skyline (21 miles/4500 ft) with Joe Oldfield taking 2nd place.

Chicken Run FR took place and Jan Forrester took the Ladies’ course record for the LV70 category over the new course started in 2022.

Peter Wilmot and  Craig Allen ran the Hardmoors 55 from Guisborough to Helmsley.

Billy Cartwright had a magnificent win in the Mourne Mountains, the first race this year in the British Hill and Fell Champs.

Good to see Jenny Reed back in a MAC vest taking 7th female in the Derby 10k. Whilst Mick Moorhouse MV70 continues to win all over the place on the fells, including the Pete Hartley Memorial Race (7k/250m) in Rawtenstall, Lancs.

The first away run for MAC took place on 30th March – the traditional Chatsworth Run.
